North by North West was made in 1959 by Alfred Hitchcock. North by North West has been categorised as a thriller due to the fast passing and having frequent and unexpected action. 

North by North West is a film about a man who has been mistaken to be someone else. The man who goes by the name of Roger Thornhill is unaware of what is actually going on but is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and find out who George Kaplan is and why the foreign spies are after him. Whilst on his quest to find the answers he comes across a very young, pretty blonde woman who he quickly grows fond of. as he getting closer and closer to her he begins to realise that she is a vital part of his big mystery.Roger gets into more and more intense action when eventually he gets to the conclusion of his mysterious investigation....

The North by North West trailer is appealing to most people in the 1950's because Alfred Hitchcock created a thriller with action that is shocking and is unknown in the 1950's.  All though the trailer gives little away, it gives the audience enough for them to get hooked and gives the audience little thrills to encourage the viewer to want to watch it. Devices such as suspense and little cliff hangers are used in the trailer to attract the viewers.
